THE SURF

Morocco is famed for its consistent year round swell, epic waves and friendly surf culture. The coastline serves up a wide range of surf spots from sheltered beach breaks through to firing point breaks, making it a must visit surf destination for all levels of surfer. Located within easy reach of fifteen different and varied surf spots means that no surf day is ever the same as the one before.

Description: This fun all levels beach break makes for a great local surf spot with consistent right and left hand waves and the sandy bottom beach - it's a great spot to learn and test out new skills.


Surf Spot: CROCODILES

Wave Type: Beach break

Wave Direction: Right 

Level: Beginner - intermediate

Distance from Tamraght: 5 minutes

Description: Otherwise known as 'Crocs', this long sandy stretch of beach has pretty consistent right and left hand waves making it a great spot for developing your surf skills. The name comes from the shape of the headland to the North which resembles the profile of a crocodile.

Surf Spot: Banana POint

Banana Point - surf spot morocco

Wave Type: Point break

Wave Direction: Right and left 

Level: Beginner - intermediate

Distance from Tamraght: 5 minutes

Description: This classic Moroccan right hander offers up a pretty forgiving wave which breaks just off the headland. In smaller swells, fun rolling waves and from 6ft plus it transitions into a more powerful wave with solid sets.


Surf Spot: PANORAMAS

Wave Type: Point break 

Wave Direction: Right 

Level: Beginner - intermediate

Distance from Tamraght: 10 minutes

Description: This sandy beach break is just on the doorstep of Taghazout village. In good swell, on low tide it works from the point whilst at high tide their is a large forgiving beach break with both left and right hand waves.

Level: Beginner - intermediate

Distance from Tamraght: 35 minutes

Description: This is the go-to spot when the swell is small, due to it's exposed position this beach brings in the waves even when there's little elsewhere. This large beach break, offers up plenty of space and the most consistent wave in the area. 


Surf Spot: IMSOUANE - THE BAY

Wave Type: Point break

Wave Direction: Right 

Level: Beginner - intermediate

Distance from Tamraght: 1 hour 20 minutes

Description: Home to the longest wave in Africa, and boasting rides up to 600 metres - this glassy right hand wave is not to be missed.

Level: Intermediate - advanced

Distance from Tamraght: 5 minutes

Description: Situated between Banana Point and Devils Rock this reef break with its flat rock and sandy bottom can be fast, but on a good day offers up some sweet barrels. 


Surf Spot: Anchor Point

Wave Type: Point break

Wave Direction: Right 

Level: Intermediate - advanced

Distance from Tamraght: 10 - 15 minutes

Description: Arguably the most famous spot in Morocco, this powerful right hand point break draws in the big swell fanatics in the winter season when waves have been known to reach up to 16ft / 5m with big take offs, quick waves and rolling barrels.

Surf Spot: mysteries

Description: This right hand reef break offers up some big take offs with a hollow wave and open face. Beware this break can be very shallow at low tide.


Surf Spot: La source

Wave Type: Reef break 

Wave Direction: Right and left

Level: Intermediate - advanced

Distance from Tamraght: 15 minutes

Description: This fun spot offers up great left and right hand waves, positioned just in front of La Source Apartments this spot gets its name from the fresh water springs bubbling up from onshore rock formations.

Surf Spot: Killers

Wave Direction: Right

Level: Intermediate - advanced

Distance from Tamraght: 15 minutes

Description: This point break is surrounded by cliffs and once in the water the reward is one of the longest right hand waves in the area. This surf spot has taken its name ‘Killer Point’ due to the killer whales which have been spotted passing by.


Surf Spot: Boilers

Wave Type: Reef break

Wave Direction: Right

Level: Intermediate - advanced

Distance from Tamraght: 25 minutes

Description: This famous Moroccan surf spot is aptly named after an old shipwrecked boiler which sits in the water just by the start of the wave. Boilers is a slightly more remote spot with a trickier entrance and exit via the rocks but arguably one of the best spots in Morocco bringing in big powerful sets.

Surf Spot: IMSOUANE - The Cathedral

Distance from Tamraght: 1 hour 20 minutes

Description: This second spot of Imsouane is on the other side of 'The Bay' and is both a beach and reef break -offering up some fun right and left hand waves. 


 

SECRET SURF SPOTS...

There are of course a few other secret spots known only by the local surfers which are kept a little unpublished to the world wide web.
