What to Pack for a Morocco Surf Trip: Complete Checklist

Ultimate Morocco Surf Packing List (2026 Guide)

Get ready for epic waves, golden beaches, and a slice of Moroccan magic! Morocco’s got it all—from world-class surf spots to dreamy sunsets and buzzing souks. To help you pack like a pro and soak up every moment, we’ve put together a list of 10 Moroccan surf trip packing essentials.

1. SUNCREAM

Sunscreen is essential all year round in Morocco and especially when you are in the water! Make sure to invest in a suitably high-factor and waterproof sunscreen to keep you fully protected. We also suggest getting a zinc sunstick for stronger protection when in the water.

2. SUNGLASSES & SUNHAT

Keep your head and eyes protected from the sun - with over 300 days of sunshine, these are an essential item to pack, even in winter!

3. DAY BAG

A day bag or small backpack for the beach means you can easily carry all your beach items in one place.

4. BEACH TOWEL

We provide towels for showering in your package, but you will need to bring a beach towel with you.

5. ADAPTER PLUGS & CHARGERS

Nobody likes to be caught short when it comes to chargers and adapters for their electronic devices. Morocco uses a French-style 220-volt electrical plug, which is similar to that used in continental Europe.

If you forget to pack an adapter, you can also pick one up in the village for around 3 euros.

6. REUSABLE WATER BOTTLE

Stay hydrated with a reusable water bottle and help keep Morocco’s environment free from plastic! Fill up your water bottle from our filtered water station. Unlimited drinking water is available at the surf house throughout your stay!

7. PASSPORT & VISA

Last but not least, don't forget your passport and to check if you are required to apply for a visa for entry to Morocco. UK, EU, and U.S passport holders do not require a passport for tourist entry into Morocco; on entry, you are granted a 90-day tourist visa. For all other nationalities, we recommend you check with your nearest Moroccan Embassy.

Please note, your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your return date, with at least 1 blank page for stamping at customs.

8. TRAVEL INSURANCE (With SURF COVERAGE)

Before your surf adventure, make sure you’re covered with comprehensive travel insurance. Unexpected things can happen, and having insurance can provide peace of mind. We suggest you look for one that includes medical expenses, trip cancellations, lost baggage, and most importantly, surfing. With travel insurance in place, you can focus on catching waves without worrying about the things you wouldn't expect.

9. Cash

The village is still very cash-based; it’s best to assume you will not be able to pay by card in the local shops and cafes. There are a couple of currency exchange points in the village, as well as a few ATMS.

10. A GOOD BOOK

There's nothing like a good holiday read! Enjoy your post-surf relaxation time on the beach or our sunny rooftop while soaking up some rays and digging into a good book. Turn off your devices and treat yourself to some solid downtime!

Now that you’re all set with the essentials, there’s nothing left to do but chase the waves and soak up the Moroccan sun. Whether you're a first-timer or a seasoned surfer, Morocco has something special waiting for you—warm waters, epic swells, and good vibes all around.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I need to bring my own surfboard?

No. If you're staying at a surf camp like ours, surfboards are included in your package. We stock a range of beginner, intermediate, and advanced boards, so unless you're very attached to your own setup or travelling specifically to surf high-performance waves, there's usually no need to bring your board.

Should I pack a wetsuit?

If you're joining one of our surf packages, wetsuits are available to use, so you don't have to travel with one. If you’d like to bring your own, then some seasonal suggestions are below:

  • October to May: A 3/2 mm wetsuit is ideal for most surfers.

  • January and February: Some people prefer a 4/3 mm if they get cold easily.

  • June to September: Many surfers are comfortable in a 3/2 mm, while some choose a shorty or even boardshorts on warmer days.

What type of electrical plug does Morocco use?

Morocco uses Type C and Type E plugs with a standard voltage of 220V. If you're travelling from the UK, USA, Canada, or Australia, you'll need a travel adapter.

Can I drink tap water in Morocco?

We advise guests to avoid drinking tap water. If you're staying at our surf house, filtered drinking water is available throughout your stay, so bringing a reusable water bottle is a great idea!

Do I need cash in Tamraght?

Yes. Tamraght is still very cash-based, so it's useful to carry some Moroccan Dirhams for everyday purchases.

Can I buy toiletries in Tamraght?

Yes. There are small supermarkets and pharmacies where you can buy toiletries, but if you have favourite brands or require specific products, it's best to bring them with you.

Do I need travel insurance for a surf trip?

Travel insurance is strongly recommended. Make sure your policy covers surfing and any other activities you plan to do, such as yoga, hiking, or quad biking.

Is there Wi-Fi in Tamraght?

Yes. Most cafés and restaurants offer Wi-Fi. If you're planning to work remotely, you may also want to buy a local SIM card for mobile data.
