INTERNATIONAL DAY OF CHARITY

International Day of Charity

September 5th marks the International Day of Charity, officially recognised by the UN in 2012. This global day promotes charity and raising awareness of charitable giving and it’s impact.

We believe this is the perfect day to give a shout out and shine some light on some of our favourite national ocean and surf related charities who are making strides in not only promoting a great cause, but also education and awareness.

Surfrider Foundation Maroc is an environmental association dedicated to the protection, enhancement and sustainable management of the coast, ocean and waves of Morocco. It is an affiliation of Surfrider Foundation Europe, established in Agadir in 2010 by a community of passionate ocean lovers recognising the need to preserve and protect the coastline.

Education plays a big part in what the Surfrider Foundation does and in 2016 they launched an Eco Ambassador project bringing students and teachers together through environmental clubs in schools. These clubs promote education on climate change, waste disposal, plastic pollution, how to compost and much much more. They also organise regular beach clean events bringing together local communities to help better the beach environment. These are just a few examples of their fantastic initiatives and campaigns.

This foundation places a BIG emphasis on environmental and sustainable education working to changing the mindset and attitudes of younger generations towards environmental protection which we absolutely LOVE.

Association Bahri was founded in 2010, in Casablanca by two environmental enthusiasts who wanted to take action against the degradation of the beaches and ocean in Casablanca. Since 2010, it has grown into a beautiful community of volunteers and supporters of all different ages working together to help better the beach environment.

Environmental protection is at the core of Association Bahri’s work as they aim to raise public awareness of environmental protection, educate future generations, participate in discussion on environmental issues as well as direct intervention through public actions, such as large scale beach clean events, installing trash cans on beaches and arranging their regular collection and disposal.

We LOVE the emphasis on education and bringing communities together for pro-active change.
